For more than ten years, I was responsible for the development of wheels, tires and tire pressure monitoring with 60 employees at Mercedes-Benz AG.
My job was to develop specific tires and wheels for all Mercedes-Benz passenger cars, as well as mobility concepts such as Mobilo, Tirefit, run-flat or mini-spare tires.
Under my leadership, Michelin’s PAX system was introduced, which is used in armored vehicles today. I also brought the first run-flat tire into series production together with Dunlop – the first use was in an armored Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
By consistently optimizing CO2 and range with the help of suitable wheel and tire concepts, I was able to make a significant contribution to sustainability. With the help of my team, I have used analytical work to identify and implement the optimal way to select tires and wheels. When it comes to wheels, the aim was to identify the conflicting goals between aesthetics, costs, weight and aerodynamic properties. When it comes to tires, the conflicting goals are driving behavior, braking distance and wear due to the rolling resistance and aerodynamics requirements.
I have worked intensively on evaluation procedures in simulation and realistic tire characteristics and the virtual tire. In addition, I have systematized the tire specifications.
